But how much does POWER charge? N O T H I N G That's right, I don't charge a single penny for advertising in POWER, and you can advertise whatever you like, computer related or not. If you own a P.D.L., why not advertise it here, if you want to sell your computer or some games, advertise in POWER. Maybe you own a mail order bird house making company; advertise it here! Whatever it is, you can't afford not to advertise nowadays, and what have you got to lose? Your advert MUST be in text form and saved as ASCII text to a page width of 76 characters if possible. I do ask one thing though. If you are advertising a Public Domain Libary then you must send me a copy of your latest catalogue and if you are advertising your disk magazine, then send me a copy of the latest issue. Apart from that, it's FREE. Your ad will be seen by loads and loads of people so why not have a try?! MATHEWS This is just a quick note for all you POWER readers out there. It's great to see that more and more of you are now writing articles for POWER and I really do appreciate it but what most of you don't seem to realise is that contributing is VERY important to keep POWER going and it's not just articles that we want although please keep sending them and all you that DO write articles...I really DO appreciate it and keep up the great work. I have noticed that a hell of a lot, infact, ALL the disk mags that I am in touch with have poor responses with competitions and columns....These are just as important as writing articles...Well, nearly. There are lots of competitions in POWER and it seems that when the competition is held here, at my address, response seems a bit better but other competitions run by readers have had dreaful results. Please notice that Chris Sharp is running another little competition this month and it is a competition which ALL can enter so please, please enter that. Also, contribute to a few columns...Fill in the opinion sheet on this disk. )()()() ()()()( WRITING FOR POWER )()()() ()()()( ALL your articles are ALWAYS appreciated and generally, you can do them however you want, BUT, if it is possible, I would appreciate you following these points: - Adjust your page width to 76 characters. - Try and get your articles in before 22nd of the month. - Save it to disk. - Save in ASCII That's basically it, however, if you can't do those things, then it doesn't matter that much. Print your articles out if you want although it's much easier for me when it's saved to disk. If you CAN follow those points then please, please do, however, if they produce any problems, then do it however you want, in the end, as long as I get your articles, everything's hunky dory!!! Now, with POWER in the Shareware scene, we need you to copy POWER as much as possible...To your friends, your enemies and basically, everyone you know that owns an ST. Copying POWER is very simple. We DO use an extended format usually but that is no problem. Simply copy POWER with any normal copier such as FASTCOPY (get a copy from me along with help if you require on receipt of a disk and S.S.A.E.), but there are still some rules to be followed when copying POWER. You may copy POWER as many times as you want freely. You do not need my permission to stock POWER if you are a P.D.L. (although telling me will mean that you get the latest issue every month as soon as it comes out and will also mean your P.D.L. name and address being published in POWER as an official distributor) and you don't need my permission to copy POWER if you're just the average ST OWNER. Anyone may copy and distribute POWER without my prior permission although you may not change POWER in ANY way. You must keep it EXACTLY how it is. Do not change\adpat articles, the format, the P.D. or anything else on this disk. It is all copyrighted and without my prior permission, may not be changed. Also, although I don't mind distribution of POWER without my permission, it is Shareware and therefore must be treated as Shareware and may not be sold in any other way, whether commercial, licenceware or any other means and normal P.D. prices should be charged (upto about £3). WANT TO HELP POWER GREATLY? WANT A WAY TO SWAP P.D. EASILY? WANT TO MAKE NEW CONTACTS AND FRIENDS? Well, if the answer to the above questions are yes, then this is the job for you...A Spreader! You don't need to have any knowledge of computers at all, all you need to know is how to copy a disk and write nice letters. So then, what's it all about? Well, as you know, what with POWER in the Shareware scene, it means that it can be spread freely. Infact, I WANT it spread as much as possible which means if you have a copy of a Shareware issue of POWER, then copy it and give it to one of your mates or contacts. The more it's spread, the more readers we get and the more readers we get, the more writers we get and the more writers we get, the better POWER becomes. I want ALL of you to spread your Shareware issues of POWER as much as possible so as to gain maximum readership but we need OFFICIAL spreaders too. An official spreader is a person who will get sent the latest copy of POWER, the very day it is finished. The official spreader then has the job to get that issue to as many people as possible...P.D.L.'s mainly. What will happen is that you will be given a list of P.D.L.'s which aren't covered, then out of that list, you must write to as many of them as possible asking them if they will stock POWER disk magazine, if they will then you send them the latest issue every month. Also, if you see any address's such as addresses of programmers in their readme files, then send a copy to them. Don't worry, this won't mean you're shedding out pounds and pounds of money on disks, all decent P.D.L.'s and people you send POWER to will give you P.D. in return so if you get a P.D.L. stocking POWER, then ask for a catalogue disk and you will be able to get free P.D. from that P.D.L. on a swapping basis. This is a great way to make new friends and contacts and to help me greatly. If you want to become an OFFICIAL spreader, then write to me and I will make sure you get all the details and are sent the latest issue of POWER as soon as it comes out every month. Please note that by becoming an official spreader, you are only expected to do what you can. I may give you a list of 10 P.D.L.'s but just getting ONE public domain library to stock POWER would be very helpful so please, please help me and become an official spreader. In case you don't realise what each MAIN TYPE SPREADING TO is, then let me explain. PROGRAMMERS is when the spreader knows a programmer or sees the address of a programmer in a readme file or similar. ALL TYPES is where the spreader simply spreads to everyone who he can get his hands on. P.D.L.'s is where the spreader spreads to the P.D.L.'s to stock POWER. RANDOM ADDRESSES is where the spreader will simply choose to spread POWER to anyone who he he may get their address at random and thinks that POWER would be suitable for them. All categories are very important as it means we get a good mix of readers. If you would like to become an OFFICIAL spreader (any type), then get in touch with me and also read the article about becoming an official spreader which is in this issue. Spreading is very important so if you CAN spread, please do. Even if you're not an official spreader, still copy POWER and send copies out to your contacts or ST-owning mates. If (and only IF) you have enjoyed this issue of POWER or have gained anything out of it then you should send a £1.25 registration fee to the normal POWER address. This £1.25 will go towards keeping POWER going and will help improve POWER further. I make no financial gain through you registering POWER but I must have registrations to be able to keep POWER going. As a little thankyou for your registrations, there is a bonus. Every month, two disks are produced. The POWER disk that you are reading now, and another disk that goes under the name of THE POWER REGISTERS EXTRA DISK. The first, is to subscribe to POWER (full details elsewhere in this file) and this will make sure that the latest issue is sent to you every month as soon as it is finished. The second option is to send me a disk and S.S.A.E. with enough return postage (or enough International Reply Coupons if you are out of the U.K.) and I will send the latest issue to you (or whichever issue you request) as soon as it is released, or if it has already been released, it will be despatched to you within 24 hours. The third option, is to simply buy a copy from a distributing P.D.L. or get a copy from a friend. Whatever you do, make sure that you have the latest issue of POWER at all times. POWER comes out on the 1st of every month so make that a date to remember! ============================================================================= SUBSCRIBING TO POWER ============================================================================= ************************************************************* * ************************************************* * * ******************************************* * * * S U B S C R I B I N G T O P O W E R * * * ******************************************* * * ************************************************* * ************************************************************* Right, now there may be many of you out there who want to get hold of a copy of POWER every month as soon as it comes out without all the hassle of ordering etc. Well, this is the answer for you...Subscribing. By subscribing, you get the latest issue of POWER sent directly to you by first class post the same day it comes out which means not only do you not have to go to the hassle or ordering from myself or a P.D. library, but also, you get your copy of POWER a hell of a lot faster and before most other people. There are two ways to subscribe, both of which will be covered in a minute. Firstly, may I say though that I will only accept postal orders, cash or cheques as payment and nothing else. Please make any postal orders or cheques made out to James Mathews (not POWER or James -L- Mathews) and try to avoid sending cash as ROYAL MAIL is very good at losing things. Anyway, as I was saying; there are two ways of subscribing. The first way is to simply subscribe for the price of £6.50. This amount will get you 6 consecutive issues of POWER sent directly to you as soon as they come out. The second option is to send £14. This cost gets you 6 consecutive issues of POWER sent to you as soon as they are released but it also automatically registers them for you. That means that you get the POWER REGISTERS DISK sent to you straight away along with your issue of POWER every month. It means that you don't have to have the hassle of sending in registrations and waiting for your disk to come through and so on. It cuts down on all the hassle and time wasting although if you do not enjoy an issue, you cannot ask for your registration back. When you subscribe, you can only subscribe for 6 months. We will not allow subscriptions for any period longer than that although we will for shorter periods if you ask first. We cannot promise to have POWER out on the 1st of every month although we will try our best although we CAN promise that all subscribers will be the first to get an issue of POWER and will have their copy sent literally minutes after it has been fully completed and tested. If for some reason, POWER cannot satisfy your full subscription (i.e. we finish POWER but you still have a few months left on subscription), we will refund the money for the remaining issues without hesitation. Also, if you are not satisfied in any way, providing you give us a months notice, again, we shall refund the remainder of your money without any questions asked or any hesitation.
